Figure; Royal Porcelain Factory of Buen Retiro; late 18th century. Biscuit. It shows faults and firing marks. Provenance: private collection conceived since the 1970s between London and Madrid. Measurements: 20,5 x 14,5 x 7 cm. Allegorical sculpture that presents a seated lady with a completely dramatic pose. The protagonist of the work raises an arm holding an attribute that she has now lost. The biscuit technique used in this piece, which gives a matt, very white finish to the pieces, began to be used in the mid-18th century. The Real Fábrica del Buen Retiro was a royal manufactory of internationally renowned quality from the Spanish Enlightenment period. It was founded in Madrid in 1760 on the initiative of Charles III, who had already promoted the creation of the Royal Manufactory of Capodimonte in Naples. In fact, he brought specialised craftsmen from that factory, as well as instruments and porcelain paste with kaolin. It mainly produced pieces for the court, in a rococo style that would later evolve towards the neoclassical, although its existence was short-lived, as the factory was destroyed by Wellington's British troops in 1812.
