Game table; German work, second third of the 18th century.
Marquetry in fruit and bone wood. Bronze.
Provenance: private collection conceived from the 1970s between London and Madrid.
Measurements: 71 x 81 x 43 cm.
Game table made of wood decorated with marquetry of fruit and bone woods. The structure sits on four slender stipe legs, all four of which are adorned at the feet with a gilded bronze applique representing an acanthus leaf. Both the legs and the skirt have the same design based on the way the wood is arranged. The main ornamentation of the piece is found on the hinged envelope, which is closed and shows a figurative scene of classical inspiration. This scene is divided into three registers and represents a landscape image of a landscape dominated by ruins in which the presence of various figures can be observed. The top of the console opens up to reveal a rectangular table with a circular coloured mat and four circular slits in each of the corners, which act as coasters or as containers for different game-related items.
