Sofa table; Regency, England, 1820. Mahogany wood, Provenance: private collection conceived in the 1970s between London and Madrid. Measurements: 71 x 103 x 69 cm; 71 x 163 x 69 cm (open). "Sofa table made of mahogany wood with bronze appliques for the handles in the form of a doorknocker with a feline's head. The table is supported by two legs, each on one side, which open out to create two feet each. The legs are fitted with castors for greater functionality. In the upper part there are two drawers, both with the same dimensions. The top panel can be folded down on each of the sides. The Regency style, named after the regency (1811-1820) of Prince George of Wales, crowned George IV, King of England (1820-1830), is characterised by the incorporation of large, ornate forms. These pieces were often enriched with a taste for exotic Turkish, Indian and Egyptian stylistic themes. This type of mirror was used in the most distinguished palatial rooms, as attested to by well-known publications such as Nancy McClelland's "Duncan Phyfe and the English Regency".
