Salvilla; George III, late 18th century.
Silver.
Punches are present and the Rugg workshop mark
Provenance: private collection conceived since the 1970s between London and Madrid.
Measurements: 4 x 41 cm (diameter).
Circular in shape, it has a perimeter based on sinuous, inletted curves, but which already announce in their tendency towards symmetry the transition to neoclassicism. The profile is moulded with garlands decorated with flowers, while in the centre there is an inscription inside a geometrical border that ends with a medallion made up of stylised vegetal elements on the outside. It stands on four legs that are decorated with a claw-shaped decoration. Salvilla, or salva, is the name given to the cup-shaped dish or tray with a pedestal base, used as a support for other smaller vessels.
