Fernandine console table, circa 1820. Mahogany wood, ebonised and gilded. It has faults. Provenance: private collection conceived from the 1970s between London and Madrid. Measurements: 98 x 79 x 202 cm. Fernandine console made of ebonised and gilded mahogany. The console follows a typology typical of the period defined by a taste for sinuous lines and rounded volumes. The front is based on two legs that rise up in a curved profile and end with a figurative sculpture in the form of a lion that serves as a support for the upper tabletop. This front is characterised by a play of volumes in the interior of which there is a decoration in the form of successive gilded arches that form a rhythmic grid that lends dynamism to the piece of furniture and relieves it of the robustness of the structure. The piece exudes timeless solemnity, full of references to the classical world, but freely reinvented. This is a piece of furniture with late neoclassical roots. During the reign of Ferdinand VII, the stylistic legacy of the First French Empire was perpetuated, balancing Greco-Roman, neoclassical and Egyptian influences.
