Frame; Spain, second half of the 17th century. Carved and polychromed wood. The polychromy has been restored. It has a label on the back from the Junta de Incautación y Protección del Patrimonio Artístico (Board for the Seizure and Protection of Artistic Heritage). Provenance: private collection conceived since the 1970s between London and Madrid. Measurements: 101 x 82 cm; 124 x 105 cm. 17th century frame made of carved and polychromed wood, with a structure typical of this period: rectangular. The piece combines carved sections with other lines, leaving the inner perimeter carved with a band of small balls arranged as a chain, an inner band with a carving of stylised plant motifs and finally, the outer band which has a smooth finish. The ornamental interplay is not only based on the alternating carving, but is also visible through the colour, as the piece combines a gilded finish on the inside and a polychrome finish on the outside.
