Antique Italian frame in blackened wood (restorations)
This large and beautiful oil on stone is typical of the Florentine productions of the first half of the 17th century. The artist was inspired by the engraving of the Flemish artist Lucas Gassel and embellished the composition. The Metropolitan Museum in New York holds a print of this engraving from the 1560s-70s under the inventory number 1999.360.4.
