WELLES ORSON: (1915-1985) American actor & film director, Academy Award winner. A good T.L.S., Orson Welles, one page, 4to, n.p. (New York or California), 24th November 1942, to Miss Ruth Petit, on the attractive printed stationery of Mercury Productions Inc. (providing addresses in both New York and California). Welles writes, in full, 'Your letter was so sincere and charming that I couldn't resist answering it immediately. Thanks for what you write about ''Ambersons'' and ''Citizen Kane'' - - and thanks, again, for such a nice letter'. VG Welles' first feature film, Citizen Kane, was released in 1941 and is today regarded as one of the greatest films ever made. The period drama The Magnificent Ambersons was written, produced and directed by Welles in 1942 and was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
