GARBO GRETA: (1905-1990) Swedish-American actress, the recipient of an Honorary Academy Award. A scarce, bold, vintage fountain pen ink signature ('Greta Garbo') to an uncompleted printed slim 8vo receipt from Nyborg & Nelson, the Swedish-American delicatessen and grocery store located on Third Avenue in New York. Two small areas of paper loss to the edges, not affecting the signature. About VG Provenance: Accompanied by a typed letter of provenance signed by Liz Nordlund, an employee of Nyborg & Nelson, who originally obtained the signature. Dated August 1974 and written in Swedish (accompanied by an English translation) the letter states, in part, 'The autograph of Greta Garbo was given to me personally on the 23rd December 1954. Garbo visited the shop in which I worked in New York and wrote on a bill from the shop her own name'.
