Saint Eligius, probably South Germany, c. 1500/1530, ,fruitwood, carved, colored over chalk ground, standing depiction of the saint as a blacksmith at the anvil, the costume of the sitter, especially the cow-mouth shoes, popular only in the years 1490 to 1520, allow a chronological classification, it is likely that it is a representation of the saint with the facial features of the donor, as in the case of the blacksmith Peter Drippel in Großostheim, who donated a chapel to St. Eligius, some stress cracks especially starting from the massive plinth, h: 89 cm.
