Henriette Theodora Markovitch, that was Dora Maar's name before she chose an easier name to remember: like Man Ray, she used the technique of cutting off certain parts of her surname of Croatian origin, allowing only the central letters to emerge. An operation perfectly in line with the surrealist spirit that animated her in the Paris where she frequented Brassai, Elouard, Cartier-Bresson and above all Picasso whose Guernica was documented by her. Even in this beautiful composition one breathes the surrealist atmosphere that knew how to animate objects to make them curiously vital. This lot is subject to Artists Resale Rights
