1973 LAVERDA 750 SF1 Chassis No. 13555 Engine No. 13555 - Specimen intended for the American market - Restoration a few years ago - Running and duly registered in italy - Captivating 1970s sporty look In the panorama of mythical maxi motorcycles of the 1970s, the Laverda SF has a place of absolute respect. The brainchild of Massimo Laverda during one of his trips to America in the mid-1960s, it was among the first motorcycles designed exclusively for pure fun than as a more utilitarian vehicle. Massimo Laverda studied the American market at the time and realized that to have a successful motorcycle, one had to come up with a large displacement, powerful vehicle designed for pure riding pleasure. Taking a cue from the small Honda Hawk 305, the best-selling motorcycle in America at the time, Massimo Laverda together with technician Luciano Zen and designer Adriano Valente created what became the company's first large motorcycle, the 650 GT. Introduced in 1967 it served as a springboard for the 750 of 1968 and the sportier S of 1969. In 1970 came the SF and it was an immediate success: fast, as charismatic as it was beautiful, it became a true best seller for the Breganze company, which also enjoyed considerable success in America. This SF1 example is a model destined for the American market and according to the nameplate affixed to the right side of the chassis, it was produced in January 1973, which was the last year of SF1 production. It has been modified by previous owners with the addition of a sportier 2-in-1 exhaust, set-back footpegs and lower half-handlebars, and the later series headlight. The tank, sides and tail were repainted years ago and shows signs of continued but careful use over the years. We do not currently know the color of origin of this bike and cannot guarantee that it was born in the beautiful blue color it is in today. Well maintained and in working order, it is an excellent motorcycle for that enthusiast looking for a fun classic and for continued carefree use. Specimen destined for the American market.
