Conceived by Alber Friedrich and Heinrich Rößler soon after World War II, the Unimog was intended to be a universal vehicle, capable of working in an infinite number of operational contexts. Production began in 1948 at the Boeringher factory in Göppingen, Germany. The flexible-frame design was a novel feature of the Unimog and was indeed part of the vehicle dynamic. In 1951 Mercedes Benz took over the design and began production of this extraordinary vehicle, which has seen a wide variety of uses ever since. The first version, named 70200 was unfortunately too underpowered for the uses for which it was intended. Therefore Daimler Benz introduced the more powerful 411 version with numerous improvements, such as a longer wheelbase, a less spartan cab and engines capable of 33.5 horsepower. This 1963 Unimog 411 is an original example intended for the Italian market and is equipped with numerous options, making it one of the most interesting examples on the market to date. Chassis 411118/025844 is equipped with the 'Air Brake System for both the vehicle and the trailer, 3 hydraulic power take-offs (rear, front and side with pulley), the first 2 reduced gears, extended intake nozzle, 4x4 drive, and lockable differential. It is also equipped with the original front PTO distributor assembly in the front hood and still has all its original nameplates. This example is powered by a 1777cc 4-cylinder diesel powered by Bosch inline pump. It lends itself either as a perfect still working vehicle or excellent base for a high level collector restoration for a conservative restoration It has signs of use, and mounts additional headlights that are not original. It is offered with 4 original rims and tires for the model and is free of structural rust, still retains its original tarp as well as original caisson with period wood. Rare to find, this Unimog is a vehicle for that enthusiast who can appreciate the value of a piece of industrial vehicle history.
