PROVENANCE : - Former Jacques Doucet collection (oral tradition). - Sale Ader-Picard-Tajan, April 24, 1989, lot n°200; private collection. - Exhibition: at the Salon d'Automne of 1913, Léon Indenbaum exhibited under n°969 a bas-relief fragment entitled "Les Bergers" belonging to M. J. D. (Jacques Doucet, then the artist's only major patron). Our panels were probably part of this shipment. HISTORY : Léon Indenbaum always made terracotta projects of his works, before accepting the clients and realizing them in more noble stone, such as marble or onyx. Jacques Doucet commissioned a large bas-relief for his dining room on the Avenue du Bois, and Léon Indenbaum had to make a few proposals, such as our patinated terra cotta panels, before delivering the "Idyll" in September 1913. A certificate from Léon Indenbaum's successor will be given to the buyer.
