On April 17, 1964, Ford presented its Mustang at the New York World's Fair, reinventing the automobile for young Americans coming from the baby boom and bored with big, heavy and massive cars. Instead of making yet another version of an existing car, Ford put the pony car concept on wheels. Initially created as a two-seater coupe in the purest European tradition, the manufacturer realized that success depended largely on sales volume; thus, to save development costs, the first versions were based directly on the Ford Falcon wagon. The Mustang was then equipped with a 2.8 L in-line 6-cylinder engine as standard. In 1965, the engine capacity was increased to 3.2 L, giving it an increased power of 120 HP. Our 1966 coupe version was produced in 499 751 units. The recipe for success is simple: a base and mechanical elements from the mass production, all dressed with a body with sportier and more modern lines with an endless list of options allowing everyone to make his Mustang unique. Ours features a 4-seat pony skin interior, optional trunk release and hubcaps. A great value in the collection, it is easy to maintain thanks to the numerous remanufactured parts. The photo file of the restoration is attached.
