Gouache on tinted paper. Study of costume for the executioners of the fourth painting: "March to the torture". Signed lower right. Titled "Executioners" on the lower left. An annotation for the costume designer: "Blanc" . Names of the dancers: "lsmaïloff, Borovansky" at the top right.

For the premiere - by the Compagnie des Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo of Colonel de Basil - of Leonide Massine's ballet to the music of Hector Berlioz on July 24, 1936 at Covent Garden in London. Orchestra under the direction of Efrem Kurtz. Main performers: Leonid Massin (the young musician) and Tamara Toumanova (the beloved). Documentation on this ballet in the book by Vicente Garcia-Marquez: "The Ballets Russes" published by Knopf (1990), pages 158 to 168.
Purchased at the Morelle-Marchandet sale on Wednesday 23 March 1994 at the Hôtel Drouot. The work is numbered 72 in the catalog.
