Brush drawing with brown ink. Study for the stage curtain. Dedicated and signed at the bottom: "to Marcel with the friendship of Ch. Bérard". The dedicatee is Marcel Khill, then friend of Jean Cocteau.

For the premiere - by Les Ballets 1933 - of the ballet in one act by George Balanchine on music by Mozart orchestrated by Tchaikovsky (Suite No. 4, opus 51), on June 7, 1933 at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Main performers: Tamara Toumanova, Lucienne Kylberg and Roman Jasinsky. See in our collection the program of the Ballets 33 (pages 4 and 5). See also Kochno's book where we find (page 151) a gouache for this stage curtain.
Purchased at the Saint-Sulpice market flea market in June 1996.
