Ponce-Camus painted the portrait of Révoil while both young men were students of David. This "studio study" explains the singular surface condition of the work, which is probably a reused canvas. If the pose and costume are similar to the self-portrait of Ponce-Camus (location unknown), the spirit is different. The nostalgia and delicacy that emanates from it reflects the character of the young painter.
