J.-P. Cuzin, I. Mayer-Michalon, "Quelques nouveaux Vincent," in Onzièmes rencontres internationales du Salon du Dessin, De David à Delacroix. Du tableau au dessin, Paris, 2016, p. 91 and p. 207, ill. 3.
The studies after ancient sculptures made by Vincent in Rome are "splendidly scholastic," as Jean-Pierre Cuzin puts it (op. cit., p. 51). The tight modeling retranscribes the hardness of the marble. This technique was admired by Vincent in his time (op. cit., p. 51). Cuzin lists a twin brother of this drawing, a Head of Cicero in profile after the antique (op. cit., no. 114D, reproduced. p. 367).
