A LARGE ICON SHOWING CHRIST IN MAJESTY Russian, 18th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Seated on an opulent throne and cushions, Christ is blessing and bearing the open Gospels. His face depicted in subdued earthly tones with white highlights. Christ's feet rest upon a footstool. He is surrounded by an almond shaped area depicted in red. Throughout the mandorla cherubim can be seen. The blue glory decorated with seraphim, the red four-pointed star with the Apocalyptic symbols of the Evangelists. The background and border stripped to gesso, minimally restored. 40.3 x 37.2 cm. LARGE-SIZED ICON WITH THE THRONENDOUS CHRIST WITH THE EMPIRE OF THE ANGELS Russia, 18th century. Wooden panel with two back sponki (lost). Kovcheg, egg tempera on chalk ground, chrysography. 40,3 x 37,2 cm. In the vertical central axis frontal representation of Christ on a throne. His right hand is raised in a gesture of blessing. He holds the unfolded gospel leaning on his knee. His feet stand on a suppedaneum. In the prongs of the rhombus appearing behind the throne rendering of cherubim. The blue medallion adjoining to the rear is entouraged by six seraphim on a blue background. The tetramorph appears in the spikes emanating from it. The seraphim and cherubim surrounding him symbolize the heavenly powers. Color of the background and border removed, min. rest.
