Provenance : former collection of Stanislas Auguste Gilibert (1780-1870), president of the board of directors of the Hospices civils de Lyon in 1830 ; he bequeathed his fortune to the city of Lyon to found the girls' school of La Martinière;
auction sale at La Martinière on March 11, 1872, n° 67 : "Ribera : Saint Peter and Saint Paul led to the Supplication.
Saint Peter dressed in a gray robe and a yellow cloak walks with his head bowed, hands crossed and tied with
ropes. Saint Paul is at his side. Behind them we can see the head of the executioner The figures of the two saints offer a great character
character a correct drawing a noble and deep expression. On canvas gilded frame height 1m12 c width 92 c".
