Autograph letter to a friend in which André Breton, a medical student, wonders about his situation.
... 'T. Fraenkel writes that I am losing myself. He understands by there, on my confessions, that the beautiful does not move me any more and has the friendship to be affected more than me...
I am joking, I manage to make the pigeon to my remorse' ...
... Nantes carried me in creative value rather high. I had for some time the pride to suppose that Rimbaud had spoken to me more than to the others. I was crazy about it. Those who knew me would tell you that I would have loved him" ... "I am an intern of Doctor Leroy, head doctor of the Ville-Evrard insane asylum. Here I am, suddenly toasted of my service, to the point of the worst renunciation? I look at myself incredulously examining patients discussing their delirium bitterly... the most serious thing is that I do not act out of spite... I once threatened Fraenkel that one day he would be an asylums doctor, a former intern. This incurable ambition came to me. Psychiatry is wonderful. Apollinaire sent me a charming eccentric watercolor' ...
... To exonerate myself from the false accusation of indulging in my future research because of premature impotence, I leave you the judge of my last poem Coqs de Bruyère'.
Breton gives a complete copy of this poem which will be published in Mont de Piété in 1919 at Sans pareil
