VD16 S 9864 - BM STC German 839 - Vischer C 396 - Barth 10216 - Haller IV, 396 - Lonchamp 2819 - Feller/B. p. 180 ff. - Leemann-van Elck, Froschauer p. 106ff. - First edition of the most important printed Swiss chronicle of the 16th century with the magnificent woodcuts by Hans Asper, Heinrich Vogtherr, Rudolf and Johann Wyssenbach and others - "With this chronicle, the series of Swiss historical printed works reaches its climax; it is characterized by a hitherto never offered abundance of high quality pictorial decoration. It surpasses even the famous world chronicle by Hartmann Schedel, published in Nuremberg in 1493. About 4000 illustrations adorn the monumental work, whereby, as was common at the time, the same sticks were often used [...]; the abundance of illustrations is overwhelming" (L.-v. E.). - Lacking the map of Europe. - Browned, some dampstaining or finger staining throughout in lower margin. Endpapers renewed, title and double-page maps neatly mounted, few restored marginal defects (the Aargau map with a small lack), last index page with corner tear in lower third and corresponding loss of text.
