LXII" (few sm. cracks, losses and retouching). In black and gilt wooden frame (not studied outside frame). Good condition. Portrait of the Flemish Renaissance cartographer at the age of 62, holding a compass and a globe. Painted by a skilled hand after Gerard Mercator's (1512-1594) most famous portrait, i.e. the engraving of Frans Hogenberg (c. 1538-1590), sometimes attributed to Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617). Ref.
