DÜRER, Albrecht Frederick the Wise, Elector of Saxony. 1524 Engraving, 19,1 x 12,6 cm, laid paper with watermark (fool's cap), signed "AD" and ".ALBERTUS. DURER. NUR. FACIEBAT.", dated ".M.D.XXIIII.", Latin text (some light spots, sm. tear at top left corner repaired, hinge still part. present on verso). Good impression with margins. Good condition. Dürer's most accomplished portrait print. Bust portrait of Frederick III (1463-1525), Elector of Saxony, protector of Martin Luther and patron of Lucas Cranach. Refined print with meticulously engraved details such as the eyes and beard. Good, later impression from the slightly worn original plate, but with all details still printed clearly. With a few small scratches at bottom left as can be seen on some impressions in London (British Museum, inv. E,2.93 and 97). Ref.
