Silver SOUPIERE. PARIS, Joseph-Théodore VANCOMBERT (received master in 1770), 1780-1781 (letter-date R). Of oval form, posing on an oval base, it is bordered of nets and provided with two handles with leafy attachments. It has a domed lid topped by a cabbage-shaped socket on a terrace of moving leaves. The body and the lid are engraved with a coat of arms in a shield with foliage contours, scrolls and fleuron in point, stamped with a ducal crown, two crowned savages (holding): silver with a heart of gules surmounted by an imperial crown, on a chief of azure charged with three stars of the field, motto: DOUGLAS NEVER BACK (Douglas, SCOTLAND). Traces of shocks on the body and deformation of the base embedded in the body. Height 22 cm ; Length 34 cm ; Width 21 cm, Weight 1935 g.
