SET OF TWELVE VOLUMES OF 'BENCAO GANGMU' (CLASSIFIED MEDICAL MATERIAL) version 'Wu Lin Qian Ya Cang Ban', with a preface by Procurator Xia Liangxin (?-1605) of Jiangxi province, dated in the year of Guimao (1604). -Table of contents -Volume 1 of illustrations -Volumes 14, 15, 16 and 18 of the "Herbs" Section -Volumes 22 and 24 of the "Grain" Section -Volumes 30 and 31 of the "Fruit" Section -Volumes 40 and 41 of the Section "Insect". With stamps of the collector Damheon Lee Ha-gon (1677-1724), who was a representative writer, literary critic, bibliophile and private collector of paintings and calligraphy. DIM. 27,5 X 17,5 CM (10 13/16 X 6 7/8 IN.) - NOTE The "Bencao gangmu" is a work of medical matters written in the 16th century comprising 53 volumes, by Li Shizhen (1518-1593), a Chinese naturalist physician and first published in 1593. It is placed in the perspective of the long and rich history of Chinese medical materials (bencao), which has resembled over the centuries information on the medicinal use of natural mineral, vegetable and animal substances. Li Shizhen organizes all medicinal substances into a hierarchical classification system consisting of 16 sections (bu), 60 categories (lei), and about 1,895 records (zhong). Each record of a medicinal substance is very well structured according to a standard plan.
