An Egyptian Order of the Republic Grand Cross The Egyptian Order of the Republic was founded in 1953 to celebrate the rebirth of the Republic of Egypt in five classes. Here is a set of the second type awarded from 1958 to 1971. The set, a 1st class cross, to be worn on a sash, and a breast star are made from gilded silver and enamel. The star is hallmarked on the reverse cartouche and pin: T. Bichat of Cairo. Small rosette with black button for lapel. Contained in green leather case of issue with gold foil embossed lid, gilt metal ornate latch closures, inside of cream-color velvet raised platform, lined in cream rayon with manufacturer tag. Sash ward diameter ca. 60 mm (minus eagle suspension loop), sash length ca. 150 cm. Breast award diameter ca. 90 mm. Rosette ca. 15 mm with button. Box ca. 28 x 24.5 x 4.5 cm.
