A Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle Grand Cross The order of the Aztec Eagle was established on December 29, 1933, by President Abelardo L. Rodríguez as a reward to the services given to Mexico or services to humankind by foreigners. The order was awarded in 8 classes until 2011 and reduced to only six afterwards. The Grand Cross ("Cruz") belongs to the type awarded until 2011 and was generally awarded to prime ministers and heads of governments. Both cross and star are single sided examples in gilded silver and blue enamel. The star was worn by means of a needle and two hooks on the reverse of the star. The cross was suspended from a yellow sash. The set, made by "LA ESMERALDA MEXICO HAUSER ZIVY Y CIA. SUCS.", with a miniature. Contained in elaborate, original brown leather case of issues with Aztec eagle embossed lid, gilt metal ornate latch closure (one side latch missing), inside of light-blue ribbed cloth raised platform, lined in gold rayon. Sash award diameter ca. 63 mm, sash length ca. 152 cm. Breast award diameter ca. 58 mm. Miniature ca. 60 mm with ribbon. Box ca. 28 x 24 x 8 cm. USA lot - more info here Condition: I -
