84- [CHRONICLES OF HAINAUT] - [GUYSE (Jacques de)]. The First [- second / third] volume of the / Illustrations of the Belgian Gaul, antiquities of the country of / Haynnau and the gra[n]d city of Belgians: at present called Ba- / vay from which proceed the roads of Brunehaut. And / of several princes who reigned & founded several / cities and towns in the said country and other sin- / gular and memorable things, which happened / during their reigns until the duke / Philippes de Bourgongne / last deceased. Paris, François Regnault [Galliot du Pré], 1531-1532, 3 volumes in a gothic folio, fawn-colored basane, spine with ornate nerves, large decoration of cold frames on the boards (19th century pastiche binding). First edition of the French version of Jacques de Leussach (or Jacques Lessabé), which forms an abridgement of the version of Jean Wauquelin, given around 1446-1450 under the title Chroniques de Hainaut pour la cour de Philippe le Bon. This is all that appeared at the time, the fourth volume planned (see mention on the title page of volume I) never having seen the light of day. Title in a beautiful engraved frame, three large woodcuts.
