151- LA BORDE (Jean-Benjamin de). Choice of songs set to music by M. de La Borde, first ordinary valet-de-chambre of the King, governor of the Louvre. Decorated with prints by J. M. Moreau, dedicated to Madame la Dauphine. Engraved by Moria and Mlle Vendôme. Paris, Lormel, 1773, 4 vol. large in-8, marbled fawn calf, ornate smooth spines, triple gilt fillet on the covers, gilt edges (period binding).
One of the most beautiful illustrated books of the 18th century.
First edition of this very beautiful collection of 100 songs, with text and music notated in a black double fillet frame, each preceded by a remarkable engraving after Moreau le Jeune (for the first volume), Le Bouteux, Le Barbier and Saint-Quentin (for the others). Our copy is complete in all its parts, including the portrait-frontispiece by La Borde, which is not strictly speaking part of the edition, and may be missing.
Ex-libris of A. Grandsire, pharmacist of Langres and contributor to the Bulletin du bibliophile.
A nice copy.
