Boot from the second half of the 18th century. Strong postilion boot, black waxed leather. 63 cm. Note: these amazing boots were used to protect the calves and knees of the postilions against the shocks of the drawbar of the carriages they were conveying. The wooden or leather sole was attached to the vamp by pegs. It was curved to hold the stirrup on which it was supported. These huge shoes have entered the legend under the name of "seven leagues" boots. Indeed, originally, the relays were distant on average of seven leagues.
