Epistolarum seu sermonum libri sex. Paris, Mamert Patisson, 1585. In-folio, supple vellum with covers, gilt fillet, gilt laurel medallion in the center, smooth spine decorated, gilt edges (Binding of the period). First collective edition of the epistles in Latin verse of the chancellor Michel de L'Hospital, mostly addressed to contemporaries, such as King Henri II, Du Bellay, Marguerite de France, etc.
The edition was prepared by Guy Du Faur de Pibrac, Jacques-Auguste de Thou, Scévole de Sainte-Marthe, then Pierre Pithou and Nicolas Le Fèvre, and given to the public by the grandson of the chancellor, Michel Hurault de L'Hospital.
Very beautiful impression realized by Mamert Patisson on the presses of Robert Estienne.
Beautiful copy in gilt vellum of the time.
Old handwritten annotations.
From the library of Louis Theroulde, Norman bibliophile of the 17th century, with engraved bookplate.
