Aureæ duodecim orationes egregiis passim referte hystoriis. Paris, [Jean Marchant pour] Pierre Gaudoul, 1513. In-4, brown morocco, triple cold fillet, azure medallion in the center, spine decorated with small aldine fleurons, inner lace, gilt edges (Lortic). Very rare Parisian edition of these twelve Latin speeches by the Italian humanist Sabellico (1436-1506), author of an important Venetian History published in 1487 and curator of the St. Mark's Library in Venice. It follows the Paris edition of 1509, established by Pierre Richard, whose dedicatory epistle is reprinted on the back of the title. At the end of the volume is a speech entitled Francorum laudes by Évremond Mulet, preceded by a Latin poem by Sofroy de Champonay; both had been Pierre Richard's students at the Collège Sainte-Barbe. This edition, financed in association by the booksellers Pierre Gaudoul, Jean Lambert, Geoffroy de Marnef and Jean Petit, came from the presses of Jean Marchant, whose large mark with the effigy of Prestre Jehan adorns the front of the last leaf. The typographical mark of Pierre Gaudoul is printed on the title. Beautiful copy in an elegant binding by Lortic. From the library of Ludovico De Gobbis, with bookplate. Hinges restored. Moreau, II, n°706.
