Journey of the young Anacharsis in Greece, towards the middle of the fourth century before the vulgar era. Fourth edition. [Paris, Didot le Jeune], Amsterdam, J. E. G. Dufour, 1799. 7 volumes in-4, red long-grained morocco, gilded greek border, spine decorated with gilded fillets and garlands, inner garland, gilded edges (Period binding). Partly original edition, the most complete and the last one prepared by the author. It was printed in Paris by Pierre-Nicolas-Firmin Didot, whose engraved figure adorns the titles, although the present issue bears the address of the bookseller Jacques-Edme-Gabriel Dufour, established in Amsterdam and Paris. The first volume is decorated with a portrait of the author engraved by P.-G. Langlois after F.-L. Gounod. Superb copy printed on vellum paper in luxurious neoclassical bindings, very decorative. From the library of Suzette Telenga and Enrique Ellinger, with bookplate. Without the atlas in-folio composed of 39 maps and their explanation. Slight rubbing to the covers, rare foxing without gravity.
