Rococo altar; 18th century. Carved, polychromed and gilded wood. It has marble on the top. It has slight damage caused by the passage of time. Measurements: 90 x 203 x 44 cm; 3 x 194 x 42 cm (envelope). Altar front made of polychrome and gilded carved wood from the Rococo period. The piece has a rectangular structure with the upper area hollowed out in such a way that it is defined by curved lines that enhance the volumetry of the piece. Aesthetically, it has a late-baroque style, as despite being a rococo front, it retains gilded carved ornamentation, which follows the aesthetics of an earlier period. These carved and gilded elements are combined with paint that simulates different types of marble mottled in blue and red. The centre of the altar opens out into a curved cartouche that reveals an interior formed by a carved figurative scene. This has extensive vegetation, which on the right-hand side conceals an architectural construction crowned with an orb with a golden cross, indicating that it is a church. The sides house carvings topped with vegetal corbels, carved in the form of scrolls. Rhomboidal mouldings decorate the flanks. The top has a protruding profile and a moulded plinth on which the black marble tabletop with an expressive white vein rests. In this altar front, the assimilation of Spanish Baroque can also be seen in the generous ornamental development, which, however, is subordinated to a colourful composition with flowing lines that brings us closer to the aesthetic precepts of Rococo.
