Literature
For comparison see Bernd Konrad: Rosgartenmuseum Konstanz. Die Kunstwerke des Mittelalters, ed. by Elisabeth von Gleichenstein, Constance 1993, p. 50 (under no. 1.10: St. Christopher from the workshop of the master of the Seitenstettener Stephanslegende).
The two panels, which belong together from an altar context, show the saints Andrew and Wolfgang, standing in full figure in front of a brocade curtain, with the cross and axe and church model, respectively, their characteristic attributes are added.
In his expert opinion, Bernd Konrad refers to a group of stylistically related panel paintings from the years around 1500/1515 in the environment of the monastery Seitenstetten, located in Lower Austria, which are attributed to the so-called "Master of the Seitenstetten St. Stephen's Legend". Konrad dates our pair of paintings to the years around 1510.
