AN ENGLAND LACQUERED WOOD CABINET, 18TH CENTURY; WEAR, MINOR SIDES FELURE, DEFECTS, SCRATCHES, LOSSES, LEGS REPLACED, TABLE NOT COEVAL, RESTORATIONS
Among the reference models, even of ours, look for stylistic and formal comparison to the cabinet (circa 1715) now in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London (A. Gonzàlez-Palacios, Casa d'oro, Milan, 1966, p. 408), perhaps, already part of the furniture for George II's bedroom at Kensington Palace.
Also ornamented with Japanese lacquer panels with gilt trimmings, it is accompanied by a table with a continuous carved classical Greek fret, a motif also present in the lot presented here.
And again, see two examples published in, AA.VV., Les secrets de laque française. Le vernis Martin (exhibition catalog edited by, Paris 2014, pp. 24, 26-27), with similar characteristics and even closer to ours in size and decoration.
