Large 16th century Renaissance frame. Carved wood. Measurements: 100 x 74 cm; 132 x 108 cm (total) Renaissance frame of generous proportions, in carved wood with bas-reliefs. Its rectangular structure is inspired by a Greco-Roman portico: on a smooth base are the uprights which, in the manner of pilasters, are topped with Ionic capitals. The moulded lintel is carved in the form of a frieze in which the galloping silhouettes of horsemen and busts of divinities can be recognised. The frieze is reminiscent of the frieze on the Parthenon in Athens, with its equestrian processions, chariots and gods in processions dedicated to Athena. The decoration is symmetrically arranged around a central trophy. The pilasters are also carved with alternating human figures simulating Atlanteans, and foliated motifs distributed between cups and scrolls, in the manner of the grotesques.
