Comment : Thanks to the presence in Orleans of Bernard Perrot, a glassmaker from Altare, a rival center of Murano, the city was to experience an unparalleled boom in the art of glassmaking. With his solid know-how and remarkable technical innovations, Perrot was one of the most important master glassmakers of the reign of Louis XIV. One of his most famous inventions was the technique of table-casting glass, from which he produced a series of portraits in the form of large medallions with a polished flat surface and hollowed-out figures on the reverse. The small medallions presented here illustrate the developments of this art.
