Henry LEROLLE (1848-1929). Peasant women in the village in winter. Oil on canvas signed lower right. Height : 100,5 - Width : 100,5 cm. 100,5 - Width : 100,5 cm (restorations and scratches) Provenance: Family of the artist. A student of Louis Lamothe at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Henry Lerolle specialized in monumental painting. He produced important paintings for Parisian churches, notably Saint-François-Xavier and Saint-Martin-des-Champs. He participated in the decoration of the Hôtel de Ville de Paris and the Sorbonne University. The painter made artistic friendships with Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Gustave Moreau and Auguste Renoir. The latter even painted his daughters in one of his most famous works "Jeunes filles au Piano" kept in the Musée d'Orsay.
