A BAROQUE FRENCH SMALL SWORD GILT BRONZE WITH SCABBARD Ca. 18th century AD. A small sword, a symbol of elegance and sophistication during the 18th century. This fine example boasts a long and slender blade, perfect for precision thrusting and fencing. The stirruped hilt features a central bulge for an improved grip, allowing for greater control and accuracy in combat. The round pommel with a small knob adds to the weapon's aesthetic appeal, while the meticulous engravings of floral and vegetal motifs on both the hilt and blade showcase the exquisite craftsmanship and artistry of the era. The French small-sword was a popular weapon among the French nobility, who valued its lightweight design and elegant appearance. It was a weapon of choice for dueling and fencing, where the goal was not to kill but to display one's skill and dexterity. This sword comes complete with its original scabbard, adorned with brass fittings that complement the weapon's ornate design.
