Michiels SIMONS (1620-1673). Still life with fruit and lobster. Oil on canvas signed lower left. 83 x 117 cm. (slight craquelure). Expert : René MILLET. Note: Michiels Simons was a Flemish artist who spent most of his life in Utrecht. Documents attest to his activity from 1669 until his death in 1673 in this city. He was one of those artists who liked to depict game in still lifes and set them in large landscapes. Here we find the influence of Antwerp painter Cornelis de Heem, with his attention to the realism of the elements, the brilliance of fruit flesh and the materiality of lobster shells.
