Lead pencil heightened with ink on paper, representing him in foot with his sword. In a gilded frame. H. 18.5 x W. 12.5 cm. History François I of Lorraine, 2nd Duke of Guise and first Prince of Joinville (February 17, 1519, Bar-le-Duc - February 24, 1563, Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Mesmin), was one of the best army leaders of King Henry II and the main Catholic leader during the First War of Religion. He was a peer of France, duke of Aumale (from 1547 to 1550), then duke of Guise (from 1550 to 1563), marquis of Mayenne, baron, then (1551) prince of Joinville, grand chamberlain, grand veneur, and grand master of France (1559).
