RARE PAIRE DE BRODERIES SUR SOIE D’ÉPOQUE LOUIS XIV D’APRÈS DES MODÈLES DE JEAN BÉRAIN (1640-1711)
Representing ballet dancers for Lully, in a setting of architectural stage with columns with paving and curtains: one holding castanets, probably a nymph for "Le Triomphe de l'Amour", the other a scepter and a whip.
Embroidery on silk, lampas, pearls and faceted garnet beads. Wear.

History
Jean Berain (1640-1711) was appointed to the court of Louis XIV in 1674 as Draughtsman of the King's Chamber and Cabinet, he was assigned to the service of Menus Plaisirs. Berain was then appointed decorator of the Royal Academy of Music in 1680, succeeding Carlo Vigarani (1637-1713) to Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687).
