History
This plate belongs to a set of porcelain pieces made at the Vienna manufactory as a complement to the service that Louis XV ordered from the Sèvres manufactory in 1756 as a gift to Maria Theresa of Austria in 1758. The royal present consisted of this service of 185 pieces of porcelain with a decoration known as "green ribbons", of an especially of 38 figurines in cookie according to François Boucher, and of other 115 pieces and various dishes in porcelain. The Journal des Présents du Roi of June 2, 1759 indicates the sum of 48,981 livres and 10 sols as the value, colossal for the time, for this highly diplomatic gift because it followed the new military alliance concluded on May 1, 1756 between the two crowns. The restocking made at the request of the Court of Austria by the manufacture of Vienna date from the years 1760-1770 and are relatively rare on the market.
