History
This box was probably made for the birth of Louis Joseph Xavier François de France (1781-1789), eldest son of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, second child of the royal couple, dauphin of Viennese and heir to the throne of France, or for the accession of his eldest brother Louis Joseph de France, future Louis XVII, to the title of Dauphin after the death of his brother in 1789. The Royal Provenance Gallery recently sold a similar box.
