The sending of the Holy Spirit. Copperplate engraving in oval. 18,9 x 17,4 cm. 1518. b. 3, TIB (Commentary) .003, Hind 1 II.
The Sending of the Holy Spirit is probably the latest of Campagnola's engravings and the only one dated 1518. Campagnola was engaged in the medium of engraving for only two years, but artistically he was active until the middle of the century. - Very good, though somewhat uneven print probably to imitate the appearance of a wash ink drawing. With the full image, minimally trimmed in parts. Overall somewhat stained, small backed marginal tear at top as well as backed thin spot at the tip of the dove's tail, small closed hole at bottom, closed marginal tear at right, light mounting and glue residue along outer margins on verso, otherwise in good condition. From the collections of Georg Rath (Lugt 1206) and Charles Marochetti (Lugt 392).
