DESCARTES (René). Letters of Mr. Descartes, which treat of several beautiful questions concerning Morality, Medicine, & Mathematics. Red morocco, triple gilt fillet on the boards, smooth spine decorated, gilt edges (period binding). New edition of Descartes' letters published by Claude Clerselier. It is "joined the Latin of several Letters which had been printed only in French; with a French Translation of those which had [...] appeared only in Latin". It is illustrated with 29 folding plates. A choice copy in contemporary red morocco. Several headpieces missing, corners dulled. Small wetness on the edges of the first and last leaves and on the first two plates of the second volume. Edges of the plates of the second volume slightly cut. Scattered foxing. Provenance: Monsieur de Villemur, with armorial bookplate.
