Bedford, Francis
"The Holy Land, the Propylon of the Temple of Luksor, 18 mars 1862". 2 albumen prints. 24 x 28,5 cm. Both signed by the photographer in lower right/left in the negative, mounted to board (slight traces of use, annotated in pencil below image on mount).
Together with Francis Bedford, the Prince of Wales embarked on an educational trip to the Middle East in 1862. The result is an extraordinary collection of some of the finest early photographs of Cairo and the temples of Upper Egypt, Jerusalem and the Holy Land, Lebanon and Constantinople. But especially Bedford's unusual views of Egyptian temples and landscapes are of timeless beauty and are among the best of their kind. The photographs were compiled for the Prince's souvenir album and today they are part of the Royal Collection. Only a few can be found on the art market today.
